This project, which was created in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Goethe Institut in Mexico, will showcase German cinematography of last 50 years in Mexico. The project is organized as part of the German – Mexican Year.

The Goethe Institut in Mexico, established in 1966, has organized numerous intercultural collaborations between Mexico and Germany. Cultural mediation work and artistic exchange has been the centerpiece of the activities of the Goethe Institute for half a century.

From the beginning, the Goethe Institut has contributed greatly to the spread of German film art in Mexico. Therefore, the Institut provides a forum for numerous thematic film series and retrospectives during the German Film Weeks as part of this mission.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Goethe Institut in Mexico, particularly memorable and outstanding German movies are being screened every Monday in the building of the Insitut. In terms of dates, the selected films range from 1966 to 2015, and consist of a wide range of topics and genres, showing the diversity and history of German cinema and its development over the last 50 years.

The 50 Years 50 Films (50 Jahre 50 Filme in German, 50 películas 50 años in Spanish) is a project aimed at introducing German cinema to the local population, and to further spread knowledge about German culture in Mexico.
