A delegation of German parliamentarians from the Young Group of the Christian Democratic Union and Christian Social Union met the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore, Vivian Balakrishnan, on August 17th. The visit rounds off efforts undertaken by the two countries to strengthen their parliamentary ties.

The delegation outlined the excellent ties between Singapore and Germany, and took advantage of this moment in order to discuss opportunities for further collaboration. It was also during this meeting that the German parliamentarians expressed their strong support for the swift ratification of the EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement.

The meeting brought together official representatives to the two countries and took place under the auspices of a study visit programme, initiated by Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Intended to strengthen the parliamentary ties between Germany and Singapore, the programme was inaugurated with the visit paid by the German delegation.

The meeting marks not only a reaffirmation of the political relations between Germany and Singapore, but also reflects the cultural rapprochement between two continents: Asia and Europe.
