Biography

Ambassador Farouk Alifa Chaabane was born on the 17th Octobre 1946 in Metline, a villiage in the north of Tunisia.  Having studied German between 1966 and 1969 she read Political Science and International Public Law at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.  Ambassador Farouk Alifa Chaabane continued her education and after completing a thesis on the “Legal Status of Western Sahara” she received a Doctorate in Law in 1976.  However, this was not the end to her academic career, in 1979 she spent a year in Paris studying International Societal Law at Paris II University.  During her time in Paris she also became involved in Jeune Afrique, a weekly newsmagazine in Paris.

Between 1976 and 1979 Ambassador Farouk Alifa Chaabane was attached to the Tunisian Embassy in Bonn, she has also served as director at the Investment Promotion Agency from 1981 to 1992. She then moved to become special assistant to the Minister of International Cooperation and Foreign Investments from 1992 to 1994 and special assistant to the office of president from 1994 to 1995.

Alifa Farouk was a member of the Political Bureau of the Democratic Constitutional Rally  until January 26, 2010, but also head of its Central Committee (1993-1998, 2008 -). She became a member of the executive of the National Union of Tunisian Women (1989-1995) and the Economic and Social Council (1990-1994), she has been the vice president of the Association of Tunisian-German friendship since 1994.
