Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan are Committed to Dialogue to Resolve Regional and International Issues
Held in Baku on April 7, 2016 a Meeting between the Ministers of Foreign affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian FederationApril 12th, 2016
On April 7th, 2016 a trilateral meeting was held in Baku to promote dialogue and interactions among the three countries on issues of regional and international character. During the meeting, the foreign ministers, Mohamad Javad Zarif, Elmar Mammadyarov and Sergey Lavrov emphasized to remain committed to the United Nations Charter and the principles of the global compact on human rights.
The parties agreed to further develop and strengthen their intergovernmental relations on the basis of principles of equality, mutual respect and non-interference in each other’s internal affairs. It was also agreed to continue the fight against terrorism and combat threats, extremism, transnational organized crime and drug trafficking also facing the new challenges to regional stability and security.
It was also agreed to continue with the efforts to maintain global peace, cooperation and security in the Caspian Sea thus ensuring the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea, but also cooperation and development for the promotion of trade and creating conditions to facilitate the realization of investment projects and attraction of new technologies.
During this meeting the development of cooperation in fields such as tourism, youth exchange, consular affairs and personnel was also approved, plus the support for the thematic discussion of the above mentioned indications in the form of agencies and sectoral organizations.
Finally in areas of transport, the promotion of projects for the corridor North-South of transport was adopted, the diversification of automobile roads, railways and also in means of delivery of goods and free competition, in addition to creating safe routes to promote new development opportunities in the region
The meeting ended with an agreement of all parties, on instructions from their heads of state, to start the discussion to prepare the first trilateral summit meeting.
