From July 28th to July 30th there will be: “Kaypi Peru 2017,” a festival of art and culture that highlights the rich and diverse cultural heritage and the traditional arts of that South American nation. The festival is organized by The National Museum of the American Indian of the Smithsonian Institution, the Embassy of Peru and the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru.

The festival, aimed at all families in the Washington DC metropolitan area, will feature a handicraft market, and will offer music and dance performances, hands-on activities for children, as well as films of the wonderful Andean world.

The National Museum of the American Indian of the Smithsonian Institution houses one of the world’s largest and most diverse collections of its kind. The museum’s architecture, its indigenous landscaping, and its exhibitions, all designed in collaboration with tribes and communities from across the hemisphere, combines to give visitors from around the world the sense and spirit of Native America.

This festival gives a great insight into the culture of Peru and it is a great opportunity for people in Washington DC to learn more about the country. This festival is a great example of Cultural Diplomacy and the way it combines museums and embassies is a great example of how civil society and foreign states can work together on cultural diplomacy.
