Mexico-Germany Dual Year

Mexico and Germany agree on a Year to Strengthen Their Dual strategic relationship and give impetus to various projects.

The Ambassador of Germany to Mexico, Viktor Elbling, visits Mexico, on the occasion of Mexico-Germany Dual Year. The Ambassador, H. E. Mr. Elbling has declared that the relationships between Mexico and Germany ties go back a long way, since Alexander von Humboldt’s journey in 1803/1804. Since that date, the relationships between two countries has grown increasingly stronger. During the year 2016, the two countries want to realize many projects. The main thematic focus will be science, research and innovation, the environment and sustainability, mobility and integration as well as education, in particular, vocational education.

As a result of the Mexico-Germany Year, the president of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, decided to visit Germany. Upon arrival to Germany, President Peña Nieto and his wife, Angélica Rivera, were received by the president of Germany, Joachim Gauk and his wife, Daniela Schadt. A full  agenda was prepared for the president included a visit to the exhibition in the Martin-Gropius-Bau Museum, in Berlin: “The Maya, -The language of beauty”. In addition, the President of Mexico, held a press conference with Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin. President Enrique Peña Nieto took the opportunity to thank Germany’s government for offering its assistance in reforming Mexico’s police. During the visit in Germany, Peña Nieto also met with the Vice Chancellor and Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel.

The visit of President Enrique Peña Nieto included the signing of 16 agreements signed between two countries, dealing with principally technology, security and defense, finance and energy. Also new negotiations are going to support new agreements by the German government in terms of development achievements in the commercial field, between Mexico and European Union. For his part, Peña Nieto, has stated that he will support the EU’s Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership negotiations with the US, opening the region for more commerce.

The Chancellor Merkel said that the Dual Year, Germany will host nearly that 1.000 events during the both this year and next year and that the Dual Year Mexico- Germany will be the best way to strengthen relations among two countries, and she said that it is an opportunity to “get to know each other better and to come closer together”.
