The Argentinian embassy to the USA is hosting a tango and music event. The event will have two bands led by women, bringing the best of Argentine tango and folk music to the stage.

The event, which is taking place on July 20th, will have the bands Mavi Díaz & Las Folkies and María Volonté: Blue Tango Project perform. Mavi Díaz & Las Folkies is an all-female band which is deeply steeped in the Argentine folk tradition. The band was founded in 2010 to explore new expressive possibilities within the venerable Argentine folk tradition.

María Volonté: Blue Tango Project explores the connection between tango and blues music. She is an Argentine singer and songwriter who is a Carlos Gardel Prize winner (Argentina’s Grammy), a Latin Grammy nominee and member of the Tango Hall of Fame. Kevin Carrel Footer (KCF), originally from California, he moved to Buenos Aires in 1992 to begin the spiritual practice of tango. He is the author of the book “A Tango before I Die” (2013). Playing harmonica, Footer tours the world with the Blue Tango Project.

The event is aimed at sharing the music from Argentina with the people in the US. It celebrates the tango and the diversity within this genre of music in Argentina. This is a great example of the use of music in cultural diplomacy. Music can be used to give a picture of the country and its culture.
