The JICC, Japan Information and Culture Center presents a special summer film trilogy

The JICC, Japan Information and Culture Center and the Japan Commerce Association of Washington (JCAW) present a special summer film trilogy. Fans of the samurai genre will be amazed by this riveting film adaption of the classic franchise, Rurouni Kenshin. It is a movie directed by Keishi Otomo and starring Takeru Satoh, Emi Takei, Munetaka Aoki, and Yu Aoi, this trilogy covers some of the best stories the series has to offer.


Rurouni Kenshin Live-Action Movie Trilogy represents one of the most beloved Japanese swordsman from manga and anime. The film focuses on fictional events that take place during the early Meiji period in Japan, telling the story of a wanderer called Himura Kenshin, known as the assassin Hitokiri Battōsai.

The first movie of the trilogy is titled “Rurouni Kenshin: Origins”, during the wake of a brutal civil war, the legendary Kenshin Himura throws down his sword and vows to turn his back on bloodshed.

Kenshin, instead, decided to live as a peaceful wanderer, and soon finds that the world around him is rapidly changing, and not for the better. Kanryu, oppresses the people and when this monster threatens the kendo instructor Kaoru, Kenshin can no longer sit idly by. He sets his sights on a showdown with Kanryu and his deadly henchmen. In a staggering action sequence for the ages, long-time fans will find out if Kenshin can survive his promise to face his own blade.

The second movie is titled “Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno”, the former assassin Kenshin Himura and his friends are called back into action when a ghost from the past era rises to destroy everything across Japan. Makoto Shishio, another former assassin, was betrayed and left for dead at the end of the war. After witnessing his starting brutality, Kenshin agrees to intervene and help keep the peace.

Finally, the third one is titled “Rurouni Kenshin: the Legends end”, Kenshin Himura wakes up at his old Master’s home. He trains day and night to learn the final technique of his deadly fighting style. With the world closing in on him, Kenshin will have to look inside himself to find the strength he needs to protect his friends and end Shishio’s reign of terror once and for all.
