The Russian-German Year of Youth Exchanges is due to open on June 9th, 2016 with a conference celebrating the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the German-Russian Youth exchange foundation and the Russian National Coordination Bureau on Youth Exchanges with the German Federal Republic. The exchange pursues a variety of formats with which German-Russian contacts have long been cultivated. For example, the German-Russian Youth Forum will take place in Munich from June 30th to July 3rd 2016. In November 2016, the 12th German-Russian Youth Parliament will convene in Berlin.

The further deepening of understanding and mutual trust between Germany and Russia youth representatives as well as strengthening bilateral youth collaboration are a shared German-Russia priority. The younger generation plays a significant role in building the future German-Russian relationship.

The goal of the project is to strengthen relations between the two countries through the exchange of cultures, traditions, language and customs. After all, stereotypes can be overcome and trust and partnership can be strengthened only when individuals get to interact and understand each other. As well, the Year of Youth Exchanges should help ensure positive trends in interaction and contact between Russian and German civil societies.

The Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation and the Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs of the German Federal Republic claimed, “We are guided by our shared desire to promote more direct communication between young people in our counties and to strengthen dialogue and mutual understanding between our nations.”  In the complex political situation evident today, it is important to show our mutual commitment towards cooperation.

The Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation and the Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs of the German Federal Republic will continue to hold the youth exchanges ensuring bilateral relations between both countries.
