The Hon. Lars Lokke Rasmussen is the Former Prime Minister of Denmark, Chairman of the Liberal Party of Denmark and a Member of the Danish Parliament

Academic Career

The Hon. Lars Lokke Rasmussen earned a Master of Laws from the University of Copenhagen in 1992. From 1990 to 1995 he worked as a self-employed consultant. He has been a member of the Danish parliament (Folketinget) since 1994 and from 1998 to 2001 he also served as County Mayor of the Frederiksborg County. Subsequently he was the Interior and Health Minister, and from 2007 to 2009 he was the Minister of Finance.

Political Career

In 2009, he succeeded Anders Fogh Rasmussen as Prime Minister following the his appointment as Secretary General of NATO. The Hon. Lars Lokke Rasmussen was the Prime Minister until 2011.

He is currently the leader of the centre-right liberal party in the Parliament of the Kingdom of Denmark, Venstre.

His many affiliations include: National Chairman of the Young Liberals from 1986 to 1989, member of the Central Board of the Liberal Party from 1986 to 1990, member of Graested-Gilleleje Municipal Council from 1986 to 1997, Chairman of the Children’s and Cultural Committee from 1990 to 1994, First Deputy Mayor and Chairman of the Trade and Industry Committee, and Chairman of the Health Committee from 1994 to 1997.

As a long time supporter of environmental causes, The Hon. Lars Lokke Rasmussen was President of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Copenhagen in 2009 (COP 15). In 2012, he founded the fund “LøkkeFonden,” which supports maladjusted boys.


The Hon. Lars Lokke Rasmussen is  the author of The Association Manual (1994) and If I Get Old (1997).
