The Creative Side of the Romanian Culture on Display in Mons

The Romanian Cultural Institute in Brussels and Mons 2015 Foundation are jointly organizing a Romanian cultural weekend at Maison Folie in Mons, from July 10th to July 12th. Romanian artworks, music, cuisine and other aspects of the national cultural heritage will be showcased at Maison Folie over the weekend.

Mons city, located in southern Belgium, holds the title of the European Capital of Culture for 2015 and will be hosting the event entitled “Weekend en Folie”. “It is a cultural event especially designed in accordance with the agenda of the European Capital of Culture in 2015. It is aimed to portray and apprize the traditional and contemporary Romanian culture”, declared Anne André, Maison Folie’s Program director.

The event’s opening will be on Friday July 10th, when the exhibition named Wearable Sculptures by the Romanian artist Doru Dumitrescu will be held, followed by a Romanian Jazz Collective concert. Doru Dumitrescu will reveal thirty of his latest sculptures for the very first time to the Belgian audience present at the event. On Friday evening, a 3D light and music spectacle created by Alexandra Suciu and Virgiliu Guraliuc from Visual Skin will enliven the festive atmosphere.

On Saturday July 11th, the event’s program will continue with a workshop on wooden jewelry held by Doru Dumitrescu. Furthermore, the afternoon’s agenda lists a conference and a wine-tasting event. On Saturday evening the band Trio Dor, consisting of Ioana Cristina Mihai (piano), Laeticia Cellura (violin) and Ovidiu Alupei (cello) will hold a concert. It will be followed by another light show and an outdoor projection of the celebrated Romanian movie Selfie (2014) by Cristina Iacob.

Last but not least, on Sunday, July 12th, the program includes a musical Romanian brunch. Romanian cuisine will be reinterpreted and presented in a new light by the Belgian chef Neusy Benoît. Moreover, Val Quentin, a Belgian artist of Romanian origins, will perform traditional Romanian music with classic influences.
