The Common Baltic Short film contest opened to the public on July 24th. It is an event organized by the most well-known cultural institutes in Poland. Contestants are asked to make a short film about the Baltic identity, including countries such as Poland, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and Iceland.

In terms of preparation, participants are allowed only four weeks during the summer. Organizers believe that this is the most appropriate time to create artwork about the Baltic Sea. The contest is not only open to professional filmmakers, but also open to amateurs, giving them the chance to gain recognition in the cinema industry. The contest is only open to those aged older than 18.

Participants have until August 25th to send in their work. After that, all movies will be evaluated by a special jury created from well-known people from the film industry. The jury comprises of Leszek Kopeć, the director of the Pomeranian Film Foundation and Film Festival; Magnus von Horn, a Swedish movie director living in Poland; and Olga Wysocka and Grzegorz Skorupski, film experts from the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.

The jury will notify the winners between the 31st of August and 3rd of September. The awards will be given during the 40th Gdynia Film Festival. Furthermore, the winners will be provided with free entrance for the Festival, where they have the possibility to meet connected producers and artists. The schedule also allows for a guided tour of Tricity, one of the most interesting tourist destinations in Poland.
